Dow GLBI to return to the Great Lakes Bay Region in 2021

LPGA Tournament celebrates 2021 event with the launch of volunteer registration

MIDLAND, Mich. (March 1, 2021) – Planning is underway for the return of the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational. Scheduled for July 11 – 17, 2021, the LPGA team event will once again welcome the world’s best female golfers to Midland Country Club. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, event officials are working closely with local and state health officials, the city of Midland, Dow and the LPGA to ensure proper safety precautions are in place.

“Our team remains optimistic, and we are working diligently to safely return in July,” said Dow GLBI executive director Chris Chandler. “The health and safety of our volunteers, players, fans, and partners remains our number one priority. We are thankful for the partnership with the LPGA who has done an incredible job making sure that all events on the Tour are operating in a safe way.”

To celebrate the upcoming tournament, volunteer registration launches today. More than 1,200 volunteers are needed to fill a variety of roles such as hospitality, marshals and transportation. During the registration process, volunteers will have the opportunity to select their committee and shift times. It is preferred that volunteers work three shifts in a single committee. A full list of volunteer committees, including this year’s new Sustainability Green Team, can be found at www.dowglbi.com/committees.

“The Dow GLBI was very proud to be the first GEO Certified® LPGA golf tournament in its inaugural year,” said Dow GLBI tournament director Wendy Traschen. “By integrating the Sustainability Green Team Committee, we will be able to further our commitment of creating a more sustainable event in the Great Lakes Bay Region.”

“The success of the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational would not be possible without our loyal volunteer base,” said Chandler. “The Dow GLBI offers such a wide array of committee roles for all ages to enjoy, and we cannot wait to welcome our volunteers back in July.”

The 72-hole, stroke-play tournament will begin on Wednesday, July 14 with 66 two-player teams competing in both foursomes and four-ball with a $2.3 million purse. The first three rounds of the Dow GLBI will air on the Golf Channel while the final round will air live on CBS on Saturday, July 17. Additional details regarding a schedule of events, Eat Great and Dow GLBI ticket sales will be announced at a later date. The $45 volunteer package is inclusive of two tournament branded golf shirts, a choice of a visor or hat, two weekly tickets for family and friends, free breakfast and lunch during volunteer shifts and weekly grounds access with a volunteer badge to the tournament grounds. Volunteers will also receive an invitation for two to the Volunteer Appreciation Party following the tournament. Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to register early since committees and shift times are filled on a first come, first served basis.
